The pen

Pen means feather in Latin and pens of bird feathers dipped in ink were common in Europe for more than a thousand years. The Romans came up with the idea.

Basically all literature and recorded knowledge until the 1800s was originally written down using a pen. In the 1700s they started to produce pens made of steel. The fountain pen began to be developed during the 1800s and in the 1900s the ballpoint pen arrived.

The typewriter was invented in the 1800s and today we write down our thoughts on computer. Nonetheless several million pens are still produced every day. The world´s most sold pen is called Bic Cristal and more than 100 billion pens have been made. Who wants to doodle using a keyboard?
