Internet

In 1993, 1.7 % of Swedes used the internet. In 2000 the number was more than 50 % and, in 2010, 91 % of Swedes were internet users. American research collaboration from the 1960s has become its own world in which we socialize, shop, work and play.

Initially, the internet was designed to make a network of computers communicate. The World Wide Web was invented by the Briton, Tim Berners-Lee. Suddenly it was possible to make our own websites and surf the net. Our lives are filled with firewalls, interfaces, bugs and bytes. We have learned to chat, blog, like and tweet.

The average Swedish online customer spends 2,250 euro per year. Sweden´s internet economy amounted to 205 billion SEK 23 billion euro in 2009, representing 6.6 % of GDP.
